The Radishes Are Coming Up! - Plus Some Radish Recipes and Nutrition Information

The first two rows of radishes are coming up nicely in the garden.
As I've mentioned before, I bought a rather large bag of radish seeds - 1/4 pound of them to be exact. So I'm planning to plant a row or two each week for the next few weeks.

I love radishes fresh from the garden and I'm looking forward to the first one being ready to eat. But I've also been wondering if we're going to eat that many of them. Out of curiosity I did a search on radish recipes at Allrecipes.com (one of my favorite recipe sites) and found quite a few that I want to try.

Here are the links to a few of them if you're curious.

Steamed Radishes

Radishes Simmered with Thyme

Grilled Radishes

Lettuce with Hot Bacon Dressing

Radish Cucumber Salad

According to this article radishes are a good source of vitamins A, B-6, C, K, riboflavin and folate. A serving of radishes also provides 5 -8 percent of the daily recommended allowance of fiber. They are also a source of calcium, iron, copper, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium.

So, with all the this in mind, I'm looking forward to fresh radishes even more, and planning to plant two more rows tomorrow.
