Finally, after what feels like forever, I've finished my first braided rug. It certainly isn't perfect but I don't think it's too bad for my first either. The fabric is from old clothes, curtains and sheets and other odds and ends I had in my fabric stash and that friends gave me.
Now I just need to decide where I want to put it. My plan had been to but it in the living room but it's a little small for that room. I have it there now, but it may find another home, I'm still thinking about it.
Oh, I've already started my second one. I think these are so much fun to make.

It's beautiful!! Did you do one big braid and then "sew" it together?
ReplyDeleteYes. I learned the hard way that it has to be on a flat surface to sew it together. The first time I just did it on my lap and it was so buckled I had to take it apart and resew it.
DeleteI love it! Would you please post some instructions?
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'll try to do that. :-)
Deletebeautiful!!
ReplyDeleteThank you. :-)
DeleteIt wonderful!! You did an excellent job. Wish I knew how to do one...
ReplyDeleteIt's really not too hard. Basically a big braid sewn into a circle.
DeleteIt is beautiful. I think I would love to make one myself.
ReplyDeleteWow - just beautiful...I have not seen many of these on blogs, but after showing yours, I bet we see a lot!!
ReplyDeleteyour rug is just lovely. I am working on one for myself and yes it does seem to be taking forever. I tried to cheat a sew it on the machine, ended up taking it apart because it buckled so much. works much better to sew it by hand on a flat surface. Love the colors you have in yours. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's AWESOME! Great job!
ReplyDeleteVery clever! Great use of unwanted fabric... how about the bathroom? might be a good fit there? Thansk so much for sharing with the farmgirls this week!
ReplyDeleteI love rag rugs. Yours looks great. I need to try this.

I've always wanted to do one of these! It's really pretty! Have you seen the baskets you can make doing the same process?
ReplyDeleteRose, I would love to know how you made it- please post some photos of your next one in progress! It looks beautiful, great job :) - Nicole @ Working Kansas Homemaker
ReplyDeleteI had started one a while ago and got so frustrated (figured out a way to not be so frustrated though..) seeing this makes me want to try again. Beautiful! I was thinking to put it in a place where it will see all the time because it is piece of art!
ReplyDeleteThis is really great! I've been wanting to try this. I'm hoping you post instructions or at least a photo tute! Happy to be following and looking forward to more great projects.
ReplyDeleteI always have one under construction; they're my special gifts. Yours looks very similar.
