I Finished My First Braided Rug!

Finally, after what feels like forever, I've finished my first braided rug. It certainly isn't perfect but I don't think it's too bad for my first either. The fabric is from old clothes, curtains and sheets and other odds and ends I had in my fabric stash and that friends gave me.

Now I just need to decide where I want to put it. My plan had been to but it in the living room but it's a little small for that room. I have it there now, but it may find another home, I'm still thinking about it.

Oh, I've already started my second one. I think these are so much fun to make.

  1. It's beautiful!! Did you do one big braid and then "sew" it together?

    1. Yes. I learned the hard way that it has to be on a flat surface to sew it together. The first time I just did it on my lap and it was so buckled I had to take it apart and resew it.

    1. It's really not too hard. Basically a big braid sewn into a circle.

  6. your rug is just lovely. I am working on one for myself and yes it does seem to be taking forever. I tried to cheat a sew it on the machine, ended up taking it apart because it buckled so much. works much better to sew it by hand on a flat surface. Love the colors you have in yours. Thanks for the post.

  11. I had started one a while ago and got so frustrated (figured out a way to not be so frustrated though..) seeing this makes me want to try again. Beautiful! I was thinking to put it in a place where it will see all the time because it is piece of art!
