Five Question Friday

Have you ever had surgery?
My daughter was born via C-section. Ultasounds showed that she was in a breach position and her weight was estimated to be between 9 - 12 pounds so the doctor decided a C-section was our best option. When she was born she actually weighed only 6lbs 8oz.

Ever ride in an ambulance?
When my oldest son was four years old he developed a really bad infection in his tonsils. We took him to Dr. who sent us to our local hospital. There they decided to transfer him to a larger hospital and I rode with him in the ambulance then. The fear was that the infection would move into his bloodstream and be carried to his brain. We were in the hospital eight days (I stayed with the whole time). When he was better we had his tonsils and adnoids taken out and that was the end of that problem.

How are you in a medical emergency? Panicked? Calm?
Most of the time I'm calm in a medical emergency. The exception to that was when we had a little boy staying with us in foster care who had FAS. He was very active and into and on top of everything. We had a little old fashioned school desk and he climbed onto top of it causing it to tip over. When it tipped his finger was caught between the edge of the desk and hardwood floor. It amputated the tip of his finger. When I turned around and saw that finger tip on the edge of the desk I panicked. I handled the wound care okay but when I called my husband to come home I couldn't remember the word finger when trying to tell him what happened. It was awful! Thankfully my husband kept his head and he was the one who rode in the ambulance with him to the hospital and stayed there with him overnight.

Do you have a garden? Flowers or veggies?
We have a vegetable garden and I'm hoping to put in some flower beds this Spring. We moved to this house in November and there are no flowerbeds here yet.

When did you move out of your parents house?
I moved out of my parents house when I was 20 years old to get married.

  1. A vegetable garden sounds wonderful, I wish that I could keep plants alive, but I can't :( Wow, your son's infection sounds terrifying, I cannot imagine how scary that must have been!

  2. Fun read! Shivered a bit when the fingertip was cut off. Whew...I'm not sure how I would handle that. I guess as parents we find out we deal with what we are given.

    I'm a new GFC follower.
