Homeschooling, Out and About, and More

WORDS TO LIVE BY

The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night His song shall be with me.
Psalm 42:8

TODAY'S QUOTE

What a wonderful life I've had. I only wish I had realized it sooner. ~ Collette

ON MY MIND

I do not want to find myself looking back regretting my lack of appreciation for the beauty of my life now. Instead I want to savor each moment, soaking in the joy and blessing that is mine now, and making the most of the many opportunities I have before me.

And really, knowing God is directing His loving kindness toward me, and singing over me, how can it be any other way.

ANIMAL UPDATES

Amanda brought her large fish tank from her room to the living room yesterday and I really like it out here.

Link, our newest little chicken was brought in (by Amanda of course) for a visit today. He/She seems to be healthy and happy and growing quickly.

HOMESCHOOL

We officially started our new school year yesterday but things didn't go as planned and we didn't get much done. Today went much better! These big GED study books are going to be the  main guide for the the year for Austin and Amanda. We're also doing our daily read aloud time. Our Bible portion for today was Psalm 119:161-168.

Michael started his schoolwork today. We were going to start this morning but his day did not start well. He woke up, dressed, ate his breakfast, had several meltdowns, put himself
back to bed by about 8:30 and slept until after 11:00. But he woke up in a much better mood and we did his work this afternoon.

OUT AND ABOUT

We haven't been out much today but were busy over the weekend.

Friday the kids and I went out for pizza for lunch.

Saturday evening we went to a church that was having an anniversary celebration. There were activities for the kids, food and fireworks.

Sunday after church we had the Sunday School picnic. After we ate each kids class went on a Bible scavenger hunt with their teachers for this Sunday School year.

Later Sunday evening we went with family to McCormick's Farm. The kids live going there and watching the geese and ducks, checking the pond for fish and turtles and just enjoying the grounds.

Slow Cooker Pork Chops and More

WORDS TO LIVE BY

O LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress.
Isaiah 33:2

TODAY'S QUOTE

Before me, even as behind, God is and all is well. ~ John Greenleaf Whittier

ON MY MIND

I love the quote from John Greenleaf Whittier. It's been such a comfort to me, especially recently, to know that God's got this. No matter what happens it is no surprise to God, it was allowed by Him, and He has a reason, a divine purpose, and it is always for good.

IN THE KITCHEN

We had these yummy pork chops for dinner Tuesday evening.

Slow Cooker Pork Chops

2 cups chicken broth
1 can cream of mushroom soup
3 tablespoons butter
1 onion, finely chopped
1 1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
Salt and pepper to taste

Saute chopped onion in 3 tablespoons butter.
In slow cooker mix together chicken broth, cream of mushroom soup and seasonings. Add sauted onions and pork chops.

OUT AND ABOUT

Michael and I went to the feed store yesterday to get feed for the pig, chickens, rabbits and cats.

Wednesday afternoon Michael and I were at my sister's house for several hours. I watched kids so she could do some things.

Wednesday evening Austin and Amanda went to a church youth activity and I had choir practice.

AND MORE

Ryan was trying so hard to make a basket! Austin lowered the basket as far as he could but it was still too high. Ryan made a determined effort though and was so cute in the process!

Yesterday was the first day of school for public schools in our area. The kids were excited and ready to go

Summer Days

WORDS TO LIVE BY

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.
Habakkuk 3:17-18

YARD AND GARDEN

The garden is slowing down some for us. This was what we harvested Saturday.

Doug getting some yard work done.

While he was trying to mow down some of the old plants on the garden the engine blew on the lawn mower. So he and Austin spent some  time trying to see if they could fix it. It looks like we're going to have to get another engine for the lawn mower.

ANIMAL UPDATES

This pile of kittens sleeping on a chair on the porch amused me.

OUT AND ABOUT

Sunday evening we decided to walk partway around a reservoir not far from us. It was a nice walk and we enjoyed getting out for awhile.

AND MORE

My little sister and my niece enjoying the kittens.

Our Friday

WORDS TO LIVE BY

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

OUT AND ABOUT

We started our day with a trip to the doctor's office to have Michael's ears checked. He's been complaining off and on for months about his ears hurting. Every time we would have an appointment (pediatrician, neurologist, even dentist) I would ask them to check his ear and everyone always said it was fine. This they've both been draining and there was an awful smell so I took him to the walk-in sick clinic at his pediatricians office. He does have an ear infection now and was prescribed drops to use twice a day. But if the pain persists he's going to be referred to the ENT to see what else might be going on.

After our visit to the doctor we went home and picked up Austin, Amanda and Khristian and then went to get some of our weekend errands done.

Amanda and I both found skirts we liked at Family Dollar and Amanda also found some shirts she liked. The boys are pretty well stocked on clothes but I did get a few packs of socks and underwear for them.

We stopped at the pharmacy for Michael's medicine then went to Sharp Shopper for groceries.

We got lunch at McDonald's and then stopped at the pet store so Amanda could buy some goldfish. She's been working on getting the tank set up piece by piece as she got the money and today she was finally able to get the fish.

After getting home and unloading everything it was time to go to my sister's. I was there for a few hours with the kids to give her some time to do what she wanted to do.
