More Thoughts on Homemaking and More

WORDS TO LIVE BY

She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Proverbs 31:27

TODAY'S QUOTE

The greatest work you will ever do will be within the walls of your home. ~ Harold B. Lee

ON MY MIND

Homemaking has been on my mind a lot recently. I posted a little about homemaking yesterday and found myself thinking about it again today. I was sitting on the couch folding the three loads of laundry I washed this morning and thinking about the fact that I just washed five loads on Thursday and by Monday there will be another round again. I thought about the floors I swept this morning, the tea and coffee I made, the lunch I cooked, the dishes I washed and how long it took to do all that. And by the evening I'll be doing much of it all over again. There are other things I would like to do and sometimes feel like a failure for not accomplishing - rooms I would like to paint, decorating projects that I would love to attempt, closets I would like to organize. But simple basic homemaking is work and it's important work and has to be done. And so I'll keep on with the basics, building on that foundation as time allows by adding in some other projects and know that as long as the most important things are done and my family is taken care of, I have succeeded.

IN THE KITCHEN

Breakfast this morning didn't really amount to much. We just snacked a bit if we felt like it. For lunch I made Cheese Grits Casserole, Sausages, Fried Potatoes and fruit cocktail. And for dinner we had ham gravy and biscuits, onion rings and corn. I also made a potato casserole and poor man's steak and put them in the refrigerator for dinner tomorrow.

AROUND THE HOUSE

Today I did three loads of laundry, swept the floors and kept the dishes washed up. Doug and Austin worked on replacing a broken seal on the toilet in the downstairs bathroom. It turned out to be a pain to fix but they got it.

OUT AND ABOUT

A re-run to Food Lion after yesterday's disastrous attempt was the only place I went today. Doug came with us and that helped a lot.

AND MORE

Somehow I didn't get any pictures today but it was a good day.

Homemaking, Errand Day and More

WORDS TO LIVE BY

The wise woman builds her house,    but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.
Proverbs 14:1

TODAY'S QUOTE

Homemaking is surely in reality the most important work in the world. What do ships, mines, railways, cars, governments, etc., exist for except that people may be fed, warmed and safe in their own homes. The homemaker's job is one for which all other's exist. ~ C. S. Lewis

IN THE KITCHEN

Today was a slow day in the kitchen. This morning we had cereal with milk, apple slices and grape juice for breakfast. Since today was errand day we stopped at Kentucky Fried Chicken for to go cups of chicken and potato wedges and drinks. For snack this afternoon we had bananas and milk. This evening Doug, Kristen and Michael went out for dinner and the rest of us just got ourselves a sandwich or smacked when we got hungry.

AROUND THE HOUSE

Today I swept the floors, picked up the playroom and kept the dishes washed up. Austin did the daily cleaning in the upstairs bathroom. Amanda did the daily cleaning in the downstairs bathroom and cleaned the Beta bowls. Michael took out the trash.

IN THE GARAGE

Doug and Austin did some more work this evening on this set of shelves.

OUT AND ABOUT

Today was errand day and although we had a fairly long list of stops most of it went very well. We went to the gas station, bank, pet store, game store, Sharp Shopper, Goodwill, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Food Lion. We were doing very well until we got to Food Lion and suddenly Michael hit meltdown stage. We ended up just leaving our cart and walking out. Thankfully there wasn't much in it yet. Thanks a lot insurance company for refusing to fill his prescription yesterday. There really is a reason we need it! He settled back down quickly though and was fine on the ride to my sister's place to take care of their animals since she is out of town. While we were there the kids took the opportunity to run around a little and play on the swingset.

AND MORE

Just a little relaxing with some big teddy bears and a game on the tablet.

Our Thursday - Just a Normal Day

WORDS TO LIVE BY

From the fruit of their lips people are filled with good things,

IN THE KITCHEN

For breakfast this morning we had 7-grain cereal (similar to oatmeal but with a variety of grains), hardboiled eggs, raisins, and grape juice.

For lunch we had macaroni and cheese with hotdogs, peas, and fruit cocktail.

Snack was animal crackers and grape juice.

Dinner was Mixed Greens cooked with sausage and potatoes, leftover squash casserole from Tuesday, Easy Drop Biscuits, and  Easy Apple Crisp

AROUND THE HOUSE

I did five loads of laundry today, swept floors and kept the dishes washed up. Austin did the daily cleaning in the upstairs bathroom. Amanda did the daily cleaning in the downstairs bathroom, mopped the kitchen, mudroom and bathroom, washed down the kitchen chairs, and picked up and vacuumed the living room and playroom. And Michael took out the trash.

IN THE GARAGE

Doug brought these shelves home from work today and is planning to repurpose them for use in the garage. Austin helped him with this and also a couple other projects in the garage this evening.

And just a little more fun from our day.

Dr. Appointment and Insurance Irritations

WORDS TO LIVE BY

The wise store up knowledge,
but the mouth of a fool invites ruin.

TODAY'S QUOTE

Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you would have preferred to talk. ~ Doug Larson

IN THE KITCHEN

Today was a rather boring day on the kitchen. For breakfast we had oatmeal with milk, raisins and apple juice. Lunch was leftovers from Monday and Tuesday. For snack we had cheese crackers and grape juice. And I didn't have to cook dinner this evening because we had dinner at church.

Amanda did the daily cleaning in the downstairs bathroom and did a partial water change in the goldfish aquarium. And Michael took out the trash and vacuumed the living room and playroom.

OUT AND ABOUT

Michael had a Dr. appointment this morning at 11:30. It was a simple med check so didn't take too long. We also went to Food Lion to get milk and a few other things we needed. Then we went to the pharmacy to pick up the new prescription only to find once again that insurance is being difficult about covering it. It's the same medication he's been on for over a year, just an increased dosage because he's growing. This always frustrates me. I think when some insurance person decides maybe my child doesn't need prescribed medication that person should come to my house and help take care if my child up until the someone approves the coverage. I'm sure it wouldn't take long!

Here we are goofing around in the doctor's office while we waited.

This evening we had were at church as usual on Wednesday evening.
