The Walnut Acre Daily - Such a Fun Day!

Walking With the King
So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him. ~ Hebrews 9:28

Homemaking Joys
I was very happy today to see both dirty laundry baskets empty! It didn't last very long, but it was good while it lasted.

In the Kitchen
It's been a bit of a strange kind of food day. When we went grocery shopping this morning most of the kids bought snacks that they were munching on and we stopped for ice cream on the way home. When we got home I made a very late lunch and then the rest of the day we just ate what and when we felt like it. Not at all typical for us but nice for a change.

I did mix a batch of bread dough to put in the freezer and made four batches of homemade crackers.

On Our Nature Walk
We had a fun nature walk this morning. When we first started out we saw this baby bird learning to fly. I'm not sure what kind of bird it was and after I took a couple pictures we went and left alone so it could learn in peace.

Down by the creek we checked on the grape vine. There are just a few grapes on it and I've been watching them develop. CJ and Michael had fun looking for the grapes.

We found a toad.

And as we were walking across the yard on our way back home we found another baby bird. I'm pretty sure this one was a baby robin. Instead of fluttering around like the first one did, this little bird sat still and let me take it's picture. While I was taking the picture the cat came walking across the yard, but CJ grabbed the cat and carried it away before it saw the bird.

Other Outside Fun
CJ is excited about our plan to camp out in the backyard next weekend. So today he and Michael pretended to camp out on the front porch and even ate their lunch in their camp. Apparently they were some thirsty campers.

Out and About
Today was our big monthly grocery shopping day. It was nice to have Doug along today. The last two months I've done it with the kids and no other adults. It usually goes well but it goes even better when Doug is with me. He gets to help the kids while I shop. Austin, Amanda and CJ each were shopping for the meals they plan to make this month. CJ went with Austin and Austin helped him find what he needed. Michael went back and forth between Amanda and Doug and I.When we were finished Amanda wanted to load the groceries in the van herself. She has knack for making all this food fit.

We stopped for ice cream before we came home. This picture makes it look like everyone takes their ice cream pretty seriously but there was a lot of laughing and talking too. Austin and Doug were watching the traffic go by and talking about the different kinds of vehicles they saw. This picnic table had a top for shade and Doug and CJ had quite a conversation about how to make a top for our picnic table at home. Michael was busy trying to get a taste of everyone else's ice cream. Amanda was reading one of her new books while she enjoyed her ice cream. And I was sitting there feeling very blessed and happy to be surrounded by such a wonderful family.

Other Notes and News
After we got home, Doug mowed the yard and then spent the rest of the afternoon and evening working on the truck. It's presented some challenges but as I write this I think he's out there finishing it up.

I finally went through some bags of clothes that were given us and there were some nice clothes for Austin, CJ, Michael and myself.
