Morning Musing Over Coffee - WJSHTOT

WJSHTOT. What is this rather unweildy acronym? Dave Burchett in his book When Bad Christians Happen to Good People suggests that along with WWJD (What would Jesus Do?) we should also be asking ourselves Would Jesus Spend His Time on This? (WJSHTOT)

Why is it so easy to lose sight of the best and spend so much time on the good? The familiar story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10 is such a great example of what happens when we choose the good instead of the best. Martha was "cumbered about much serving" while Mary "sat at Jesus feet, and heard His word." Serving is good, but until we have sat at Jesus feet and allowed Him to speak to us, we have no way of knowing and how, when or where He wants us to serve. And we can find ourselves pulled in far too many directions "doing good" and still missing the place we are really called to because we have not listened first.

Today, I want to ask myself would Jesus spend His time on this? Is this really what Jesus would have me spend my time on? Today I want Jesus to say of me, "(She) hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her." Luke 10:42

  1. I love this post. Our pastor spoke about this same thing a couple of months ago. I like the question that you ask yourself, I am going to start doing the same as well. Thank you for sharing! :)
