Water play is one of the favorite parts of summer but we really haven't done much of it yet this year. So I decided it was time to dive in - so to speak. Monday evening Austin and I mixed food coloring into water and put it in muffin tins in the freezer so we could have some colored ice. And today we had fun playing in water with these ice cubes. We used blue, green and yellow food coloring, so in the end we had some bright green water.
They played with the ice and watched it melt sparking some discussion about how water freezes and thaws. We also talked about how blue and yellow mixed makes green.
And then the filling and pouring began.
Oh look! Green hands!
Empty cups float but when filled they sink.
And when the water is not in a container it begins to drip through the cracks in the table.
Who new green water could be so much fun?!?!

How fun! Most of my children are older now so we haven't done this kind of water play in a few years. But we'll have to do this with the "baby".
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. If the potatoes had not started growing in my kitchen first, they never would have been planted in the garden!
i love that you dyed the water - it makes it look so much more fun than regular water!
ReplyDeleteWho knew green water could be so much fun? We bathe outside in the summer, in a big black rubber water trough. I think I'll make some of those colored ice chunks, and then toss 'em into the tub before my son gets in! He will have a blast!
ReplyDeleteI love the hands in the water photos. Great fun. We love to do ice and water too. I added some treasures into our cubes recently and that was a hit.
