Morning Musing Over Coffee - Creativity and the Signature of God

"Creativity is not necessarily a special calling or gift from God to the few, it is a natural expression of the fact that we are created in the image of God, who is the Creator. It is His thumbprint on our souls, a part of His signature. The real question is "How will I live out this fingerprint of God on my life?"
~ Michael Card ~

I first read this quote on the side bar at  Create With Joy have been pondering it since then.

Then last night just before I went to sleep I was reading The Cure for the Common Life by Max Lucado and a couple things I read seemed to fit with this.

Here a few of those quotes

"God endows us with gifts so we can make Him known." page 3

"Stand at the intersection of your affection and successes and find your uniqueness." page 4

"Your ability unveils your destiny." page 6

And finally  this verse which he included -

"The Spirit has given each of us a special way of serving others." I Corinthians 12:7 CEV

  1. The real question is "How will I live out this fingerprint of God on my life?"

Playing with my creativity has been an interesting journey for me. I used to think I wasn't creative at all because I wasn't artsy in the obvious ways, like drawing or painting.

But once I discovered that creativity involves SO much more than that, I became amazed at all the many ways God's fingerprints are on his world not only through his creations but also through his people's creations.

    Good quotes!

  2. I love the quote by Michael Card. I enjoy him as a musician and very gifted lyricist.

  3. That first quote is pretty neat. I love that our creativity is part of the image of God--He created us to reflect a small part of His creativity (both through the creative way in which we are made, and the creative ways we make other things.)

  4. I love your quotes! My Parish has just started a stewardship committee that I'm attending and I think I'll write these down and bring them to our next meeting. I'm a new follower.

I wanted to let you know about a Meme called “Pay It Forward” @ A Life-Size Catholic Blog. If you can find time to link up with this new Meme it’s a great way to grow our blogging community. Check it out at:
    Many blessings…

  5. I so agree with all of this -- to all those that think they are not creative, perhaps we have just not yet uncovered how God has made us to create!

  6. I love this:"God endows us with gifts so we can make Him known." So why then do we hesitate to use our gifts or easily dismiss them?

I just picked up this Max L. book in the book store and devoured the first two chapters. . .didn't buy it, but I want to!

  7. Creativity is one of my favorite topics and I love this MC quote. It is so cool that we can be creative, like God. I often ask God to give me creative ideas . . . and He does.

  8. I used to think people either were creative or they weren't, and I didn't think I was all that much, but then I realized creativity wasn't manifested just in an artsy way but that it can be displayed in just about anything we do. And then one of my sons' books mentioned creativity being one way we're made in God's image, and a light bulb really went off for me. Love that quote.

Thanks for joining in the Week In Words, and I hope to see you there again!
