Morning Musing Over Coffee - Too Much Stuff?

Everything we possess that is not necessary for life or happiness becomes a burden, and scarcely a day passes that we do not add to it! ~ Robert Brault

More and more I'm realizing the how much excess stuff just pulls me down. Austin, Amanda and I have been going through things one area of the house at a time and deciding which things are really important to us and which things to give or throw away.

But why do I hold onto these things that I really don't need form so long? And why do I keep adding to the already to large collection of stuff. I think I have a little fear of someday being in need and so I hold on to everything just in case. But holding on to all that stuff becomes tiring, drags me down and does nothing to fill any real needs.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store a way in barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will He not much more clothe you - you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them. Butbseek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of it's own.

But Godliness with contentment is great gain.
1 Timothy 6:6

  2. I completely agree with this! I hold onto many unnecessary things...just in case I need them someday! I am too cheap that I don't want to have to replace an item that I have thrown away. I would guess that 99% of the time I would never actually miss it.

Great reminder to not worry about stuff!
