Having a schedule has always been very important for me and I've used many different ones. What I always have a problem with is finding a way to consolidate it into an easy to read and follow format. I also have a tendency when I make schedules to cram every minute completely full and forget to beflexible. I've finally found one and have loved using it so I thought I would share it here.
I found this Basic Household Cleaning List at donnayoung.org and tweaked it to suit my needs - and here is the result. This is only my schedule, it doesn't include the schedules of my two oldest, Austin (14) and Amanda (12), who also have regularly scheduled household chores. Also, this isn't an hour by hour plan for the whole day, but simply a guideline to keep me on track and make sure things aren't forgotten.
Any schedule I make has to to be made while keeping in mind the needs and interruptions of a houseful of kids, as well as the fact that the number and mix of kids changes every day. So what seems like an easy and quick list of things to complete often takes much longer than it would seem like it should. And I've learned to be okay with that and simply build in time for those unplanned moments.
This is larger than the space alloted for it and I didn't know how reduce it but the general idea can still be seen.

ReplyDeleteI think this is my biggest problem. My children are 6 and 4 and all well laid plans go out the window when one is sick or Mum is sick, as has been the case these last couple of months here in Australia with winter colds and flus. I do really need to schedule something, allowing for things to crop up so I'm going to use your schedule as a guide. Thank you so much.
I'm your newest follower. Your blog looks great!
