The Walnut Acre Daily - The Seizure, ER and VBS Grand Finale Edtion

Walking With the King

Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?

The Lord is the everlasting God,

    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
    and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
    and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men stumble and fall;

but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint.

~ Isaiah 40:28-31

Morning Surprise
Michael woke up this morning around 6:00. He was wet so I helped him change clothes. He wanted to stay up and play but I said it was just too early and had him lay down on the couch and turned the tv on for him to watch. He fell asleep and I was sitting on a chair close by checking my email and facebook. Suddenly I realized he was making a strange gasping sound and I looked at him and realized right away something was wrong. He was gasping, his teeth were chattering and his eyes were blinking really fast. His arms were drawn up, his hands were in a weird, rigid claw-like position and his body was rigid and twitching. I tried to get him to respond to me but he wouldn't, so I ran upstairs and woke Doug up. As soon as Doug saw him he said he's having a seizure and told me to call 911. By the time the EMTs got here he was no longer seizing but was combative and disoriented. He kept trying to get up and walk and collapsing. By the time we got to the hospital he was quickly returning to his normal self but was NOT happy about being in the hospital. After the doctor looked at him and listened to our description of what happened he agreed that it was a seizure. He also said he could see where he had bitten the inside of his mouth during the seizure. He didn't feel like we needed to admit him, but he wants us to follow up with the pediatrician and get an EEG done as soon as possible.

Here are a few photos from our unexpected trip to the ER.

When I edited this picture I noticed that his eyes seem to be looking two different directions. Strange. I've never seen him do that before!

VBS and Family Sunday
Today at church was the grand finale for our week of Bible School. We didn't make it back this morning in time for Sunday School but we got there in time for the rest of the service and the fun afterwards.

During the service we sang the songs we sang during the week, and some prizes were given out. Then we enjoyed a performance by Christian magician, Brian Pence.

After the service there was a picnic and fun activities for the kids including a water slide, a bounce house and a dunk tank.

The food and fellowship were wonderful and the kids had so much fun.

I'm glad I was a part of VBS this year, and I'm also glad to return to a more normal routine here. Although, somehow, normal around here never seems to turn out all that normal.

  1. That sounds so scary! Praying that he is okay and that the doctors can help him.

  2. Oh! How absolutely frightening for you! I am so thankful that the Lord kept him safe. I am assuming that is a picture of you holding him? I haven't seen images of you before. Did they say what caused his seizure?

    1. I am thankful as well. They really didn't know what caused the seizure. I'm hoping we get more answers when we talk to the pediatrician and maybe with the EEG. And yes that is me holding him. I never like the way pictures of me look and seldom publish them but I'm trying to get over that. :-)

  3. Wow, "normal routine" might be on hold a bit. SO glad this happened during waking hours and that you were able to get to the ER, so many things. Do update when you know more. Poor Michael had to be scared and angry both!!

  4. I'm sure this was very scary to watch and I hope your little boy doesn't have a seizure again. Best of luck to your family in hopefully finding out why this happened.
