Today's passage is one that has long somewhat amused and somewhat puzzled me. It is such a contrast to how many people (myself included) often view life.
Do not be overrighteous,
neither be overwise-
why destroy yourself?
Do not be overwicked,
and do not be a fool-
why die before your time?
It is good to grasp the one
and not let going of the other.
Whoever fears God will avoid all extremes.
Ecclesiastes 7:16-18
