Wisdom, Pride and a Marvelous Monday - The Walnut Acre Daily Monday May 18, 2015

WORDS TO LIVE BY

 Blessed are those who find wisdom,
those who gain understanding,

 for she is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold.

She is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.

 Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.

Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.

She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her;
those who hold her fast will be blessed.
Proverbs 3:13-18

TODAY'S QUOTE

Wisdom outweighs any wealth. ~ Sophocles

IN THE KITCHEN

Meals were very simple today. Amanda fixed us a pasta dish for lunch and we had fruit with it.
For dinner this evening I pulled some leftovers from the freezer - Sausage Vegetable Soup and Pinto Beans and Pork over rice . I also made a salad to go with the leftovers.

ANIMAL UPDATES

When I went to make sure the Miss Piggy had enough water this afternoon she decided she wanted to drink straight out of the jug. I think maybe she's just a little bit spoiled.

ON MY MIND

Pride shuts you in and shuts God and others out. ~ Andy Stanley

We all have a valid need to be known. We were created with that need and when it is kept in it's proper place it serves a purpose in our lives.

John the Baptist found himself in a position of being very well known. He told of a coming Messiah and baptized many He was followed by many.  People traveled a days journey to hear him speak, stayed in camps overnight, listened the next day, then traveled the days journey back to Jerusalem. And the journey back was mostly uphill. Thousands of people were doing this!

Then Jesus showed up and people began leaving John to follow Jesus. John was being unfollowed. Some of John's closest friends were concerned about this and took their concerns to John. But John reminded them that his whole message had been about One who was coming who was greater than John. The whole purpose of John's being known and followed was to make Jesus known.

In our lives as well, whatever we do, we need to do to make Him known to others. Whatever it is we do well and feel a sense of pride in we need to use for His glory. Every talent, every ability comes from Him. Then, if the time comes that we find ourselves becoming unfollowed, or unknown, we know that is OK too because, as John said "A person can only receive what is given to them from heaven. (John 3:27) and "He must become greater, I must become less." (John 3:30) The whole purpose of our being known is to make Him known.
