The Walnut Acre Daily - Homemade Noodles and Dinner by Candlelight

Words to Live By

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

Homeschool Fun and Independent Learning

This morning I started a new memory verse with the younger kids. We are going to be learning one verse each month and it will correspond with the verse Michael is learning in church that month. The verse for this month is Romans 5:8. We watched three videos -
Jesus Loves Me, The Letter K Song, and Numbers Help Me Count 1-20. We played a memory game with the -ag word family cards. This week I'm not printing a lot of new worksheets or crafts but letting them finish up the extras I have left instead. Next week we will start a new unit study.

I decided not to start assigned lessons for Austin and Amanda until next week. But that doesn't mean they aren't learning. Learning experiences and opportunities are all around us and they love to learn new things, even if it's not always in the form of an assignment. For example - in the van on the way home from Wal-mart Amanda and I listened to a program on NPR about homebirth versus hospital births. The person being interviewed was a midwife who has attended many births and she shared some of her experiences. It was really interesting and there was a lot of good information in that program.

Books We Enjoyed Today

The first two books I read with CJ, Mykalin and Michael this evening and the third is the book I am reading myself.

In the Kitchen

Amanda made a batch of Homemade Egg Noodles this evening. They are drying now and we will probably have some for lunch tomorrow.

Around the House

Austin cleaned the kitchen after lunch and dinner, vacuumed the living and playroom and washed the kitchen floor today. He also went to the dump with Doug to unload a trailer full of trash that was left from helping a friend finish moving Monday.

Amanda cleaned the downstairs bathroom and the mudroom, cleaned out the guinea pig cage and did some laundry.

I cleaned the kitchen after breakfast this morning, cleaned the refrigerator, and did some laundry.

Outdoor Fun

We weren't outside very much today. Austin did take the little ones out for about a half hour this morning but it was to cold for more than that.

We Are Going

After we took Lauren to preschool this afternoon we had some errands to run - the bank, the post office, Wal-mart to exchange pj's that I bought for Amanda that were a size to small and some printer ink and paper, and to the pharmacy to pick up a couple of Michael's prescriptions. On our way to Wal-mart we dropped Austin off at the Antique Mall so he could look around, then we picked him back up on our way home.

Today's Quote

One resolution I have made, and try always to keep, is this: To rise above the little things. ~ John Burroughs

Just for Fun

I was given some candle holders and candles for Christmas and Michael has been begging every evening to eat dinner by candlelight. So I told him we would this evening. But when it came time to light the candles I couldn't find my lighter. So Doug went out to the garage and got his torch and lit the candles with it. I told him he looked like Tim the Tool Man.
