Preschool Vegetable Math

This week at circle time we are reading The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss and Curious George: The Perfect Carrot (along with our Bible story and some song and rhymes.)

On Mondays I try to prepare an activity related to our stories of the week that also has a math component. So I thought we could make a number book using pictures of several different vegetables including carrots.

I printed DLTK's simple number template for our numbers and the Carrot, Herbs and Onion template from DLTK's stone soup felt patterns for our vegetables. I then made a book by stapling five blank pieces of paper together and titled it "My Number Book." Then I had each child glue the numbers into their books and the corresponding number of vegetables on the page below the number.

We also had these carrot pictures and curious George pictures to color during the times when someone had to wait for a turn with the glue sticks.

The kids enjoyed this activity and were very proud of their books.
