The Walnut Acre Daily - Decorating for Christmas, Homemade Wooden Blocks and More

Words to Live By

John 10: 14-15

I am the good Shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me - just as the Father knows me and I know the Father - and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Homeschool Fun

We started our preschool/kindergarten session this morning with these two videos that I chose to go with our Jesse Tree readings - Abraham and Isaac and Jacob's Dream: A Ladder Ascending to Heaven. Then they also watched Numbers in the Teens and Phonics and Reading -at Words.  We reviewed our -at word family flashcards and worked on coloring pages and worksheets.

Austin and Amanda studied subordinate clauses in Grammar and food labels and portion sizes in Health/Nutrition. The math assignment was a video on Reducing Fractions.

In the Kitchen

This morning Michael helped me mix up some Ranch dip with sour cream and homemade ranch seasoning. We ate the dip with fresh veggies for lunch.

This evening for dinner I made one of my recent favorites - Cheesy Beans and Rice. Instead of using kidney beans this time I used black beans and like it this way even better.

Creating

We've been slow getting to our Christmas decorating but today Amanda took down the foam fall leaves that we've had on the playroom wall far too long and replaced them with some Christmas pictures. These were made by the kids several years ago, before we moved into this house. I found them while looking for something else and thought it would be nice to have them back up this Christmas.

This morning Austin started working on making a block set out of the old wood and large branches we have so many of. I thought he would work in the garage but he said he liked it better outside. I've seen a number of these blocks set on Pinterest and since Austin likes to do things with wood I thought he would enjoy this.

Just For Fun

Just a few random photos from our day.

Michael took the next ones. I find it interesting to see the world through a child's eyes.

  1. The beans look yummy. I love black beans. Where do you get your Christmas nativity worksheets for preschool?
