10 Free Online Math Video Resources

1. Math Videos Online - This is a large collection of free videos. There is also a wide variety of math games available here as well.

2. MathVids - Math videos in this collection range from middle school to college level including Pre Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Statistics and Calculus. There is also some math history and other fun things to enjoy watching.

3. Math Expression - Graphs & Equations, Algebra, Symmetry and Fractions are some of the topics covered here.

4. FreeVideoLectures (Mathematics) - These are college level math lectures on video that are free to watch. There are other subjects available to watch at this site as well.

5. GFC LearnFree.org (math) - The Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Decimals and Percents, and Fractions sections on this page all have videos to go with them.

6. Free Homeschool Math - Although the videos on this site are geared more toward helping the homeschool parent teach math, the students may benefit from these as well.

7. Mathtrain.TV - This is a "kids teaching kids" project geared toward middle school students.

8. MathTV - This is a collection of good quality videos cover basic mathematics and algebra.

9. Brightstorm - This site has "Thousands of Free Math and Science Videos." The math videos cover Algebra 1 through Calulus.

10. Math Live - This is a really cool, fun site developed for elementary and middle school students. I think this is my favorite site in this list.

Book Review: Cure for the Common Life by Max Lucado

I was thrilled when Booksneeze sent me this book to review. I have always enjoyed and been inspired by Max Lucado's writing and this book did not disappoint me.

In this book Lucado writes about living in your sweet spot - that place where your uniqueness can be used to make a big deal out of God every day. This is your theme, the place where, when you find it,  you know you belong.

Throughout this book Lucado repeatedly points out that we were each created for a purpose and given the tools to fulfill that purpose. It is when we live according to this purpose, using the talents and strengths that God gave each of us, that we are effective for Him.

At the end of the book Lucado provides a questionaire to fill out that is a great help in finding one's own sweet spot by looking back on life's high points. These high points are the ones that were the most fulfilling and felt like the best "fit" when living them.

I found this book to be very encouraging as I seek to live life as the person God called me to be, not the person that society would tell me I should be. It is a book that I am sure I will be reading again in the future. I will also likely use it with my teenagers in our homeschool studies.

From the moment my feet hit the floor in the morning to the time I go to bed at night, I all too often find myself rushing, rushing, rushing. I'm not sure where I think I'm going in such a hurry. Or how I'll know when I get there, but I've always been compelled by this urge to go, do, accomplish. And while there are some benefits to this mindset there are also some major drawbacks.

It is literally almost painful for me to just sit with nothing to do. In the space of two minutes my mind has  traveled in four of five different directions, dreaming up paths to take and things to do. It is an act of willpower for me to sit through a movie or a Sunday sermon, not because I don't enjoy these but because between every scene or sentence my mind has already traveled several different directions.

The problem with this is that it sometimes very hard for me to simply enjoy the moment. To just sit and let the warm sun shine on my face, or to just have a quiet conversation with a friend. It can be hard for me to be still and listen to the bird song, or watch a child at play, without doing something else at the same time.

I am trying to learn to be still and savor. To relish the now without having to do. To just simply be in the present that is such a gift.

I don't want to miss the golden moments or the angels to remain unseen.

Morning Musing Over Coffee - Lining Up My Problems

It's not easy to take my problems one at a time when they refuse to get in line.

 I laughed when I read this but there is also a grain of truth in it. Sometimes I think I have a lot of problems and I keep trying to line them up in a way that makes sense to me. Then I plan to solve them in a way that makes sense to me.

There's just one problem with this idea.

What makes sense to me quite often does not make sense to God. And what I see as a problem He often sees as a learning experience, not a problem at all, or even a blessing.

So I guess it's time for me to stop trying to line up my problems and take them on one aat a time, but instead to pray about my problems and then leave them in His very capable hands.

Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

This Week's Favorite Resource - Making Learning Fun

Maybe many of you have already found this site but it is fairly new to me and I'm really enjoying the resources here, so I thought I would share.

The name of the site is Making Learning Fun and it is full of all kinds of fun, free, printable activities that are geared toward young children.

The introduction reads -

Welcome to Making Learning Fun: An early childhood education website filled with free printables designed to do just that, make learning fun!

The site is well organized and activities can be searched for based on type of activity or theme.

One of my favorite things about this site is the number of printable games that are available. A number of our activities recently have come from this site and I'm looking forward to using a lot more of these printables.

Farm Theme - The Little Calf That Couldn't Moo

This week at circle time we've been reading the book The Little Calf That Couldn't Moo by Iris Hiskey. This is a very sweet little book about a little calf who couldn't say "Moo" but said "Ma" instead. In the end, this difference becomes an advantage and helps him find his way safely home. Along with the book we've been reading Hey Diddle Diddle and The Cow

Of course, we had to do a few activities to go along with our reading.

On Monday we did the C is for Cow ABC dot to dot.

Wednesday we did another dot to dot, this time with the numbers 1 - 33.

We also got out our set of wooden blocks and the farm animals and made our own little farms.

I've long wanted to try coloring rice and finally decided to just do it. It is so easy! I just poured in a few tablespoons of alcohol, added the food coloring, mixed well, and poured it onto trays to dry. It dried quickly and the kids have loved it. I used green and black to represent the dirt and grass on a farm and then let the kids play with the farm animal sets in it.


This morning we drew pictures of farm animals.

We've had a fun week "on the farm" and are planning to continue the farm theme with another story and more fun activities next week.
