The Walnut Acre Daily Wednesday November 27, 2013

WORDS TO LIVE BY

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. ~ Psalm 100:4

WORKING, LEARNING AND PLAYING TOGETHER

Today has been a cold and snowy day, although it was warm enough that there was little accumulation. Since there was no school today because of Thanksgiving vacation there was a different set of kids here for the day than usual. We had fun building . . .

. . . reading stories and playing games . . .

. . . playing with puppets . . .

. . . and building some more.

Books, Games and Activities We Enjoyed Today

IN THE KITCHEN

We had toast and fruit for breakfast, bean and bacon soup (leftover from yesterday), corn, bread and macaroni salad for lunch, and chicken fettuccine alfredo and corn for dinner.

FURRY, FEATHERED AND FOUR FOOTED FRIENDS

OUT AND ABOUT

This evening I picked my friend up from work and we ran some errands before I took her home - post office, library, grocery store, pharmacy and gas station. We had planned to go to a Community Thanksgiving Service this evening but Doug and I were both so tired we decided to just stay home. I had really been looking forward to this service but sometimes it just time to say enough and take a rest.

The Walnut Acre Daily - Bits and Pieces From Our Day

Words To Live By

Matthew 6:26

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

Homeschool Fun

Here are the videos we enjoyed today - Parable of the Lost Sheep, Let's Count 1 2 3,  Ten Little Owls, and the Letter U Song. We also reviewed our memory verse - Romans 5:8 - and sang our new song - Jesus Loves You As You Are. We also reviewed our words from the -ad word family.

All of today's coloring pages came from DLTK Kids.

Books We Enjoyed Today

The first three books I read with Michael, Madelyn, Damien and Christopher at story time this morning. Books four and five I read with CJ and Michael at bedtime this evening and the last book is the one I am reading.

The chickens were very happy to get out of the coop and enjoy some sunshine today.

The Walnut Acre Daily - Valentine Owls, Applesauce Spice Cake, New Curtains and Snow

Words to Live By

1 John 4:10

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Preschool/Kindergarten Fun

This week the younger kids are continuing to work on memorizing Romans 5:8. We have a new theme song this week that we are enjoying learning - Jesus Loves You As You Are

We enjoyed watching the following four videos - The Lost Lamb, This Is Owl, Basic Addition 0's, and the Letter T Song

All of our coloring pages today came from DLTK Kids and we also did a Heart Owl Craft.

Michael and Lauren were enjoying lollipops while they did their craft. Calla had one as well but she had already finished with hers when I took this picture.

Books We Enjoyed Today

I've been reading bits and pieces from both of these books today as I continue to learn and get new ideas of things I want to try here at Walnut Acre. Our chickens are doing well although there are still things I want to do to improve their living areas. And I am hoping to start some blueberry bushes this year so I'm learning all I can about the best growing conditions for them. It turns out they a highly acidic soil so  I'm going to have to work on an area especially for them.

In the Kitchen

For dinner this evening I made Cheesy Beans and Rice and this very simple Applesauce Spice Cake.

Applesauce Spice Cake

1 package spice cake mix
1/4 cup oil
2 eggs
2 cups applesauce

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Pour oil into 9x13 inch cake pan. Tilt pan until bottom is covered with oil. Put cake mix, applesauce and eggs into cake pan. Mix well with fork or spoon. Scrape sides and spread batter evenly in pan. Bake for 35-45 minutes, until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Sprinkle top with powdered sugar if desired, or serve topped with cool whip.

Around the House

Besides our regular, basic housework today we finally (after living here a little over two years) got curtains put up in the living room and playroom. We have blinds in the playroom and we used to have blinds in the living room but they were broken. It's amazing how much difference curtains make in a room.

Outdoor Fun

We finally got a couple inches of snow this evening. I took this picture from the kitchen window this evening just before it got dark.

The Walnut Acre Daily - Cheesy Ranch Biscuits And More

Words to Live By

Psalm 103:1-2

'\
Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise His holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all His benefits.

In the Kitchen

I decided to try a new biscuit variation for dinner this evening and came up with these Cheesy Ranch Biscuits. They were good and this recipe easily fed us all plus I had some leftovers for breakfast tomorrow which is a win for me.

Cheesy Ranch Biscuits

1 cup shredded low fat American Cheese (I would have used Cheddar if I would have had some on hand)
1 cup water
1 cup milk

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.

Mix all ingredients together to make a soft dough. Drop by spoonfuls onto lightly greased baking sheets.

Bake for 10 minutes or until golden.

Yield: 24

Outdoor Fun

These pictures are from yesterday. Michael and I went out in the snow/sleet for a little. I wanted to try to make a little snowman but every time I started Michael would run through and step on it, daring me to a snowball fight. So a snowball fight it was. I love that goofy kid!

Just For Fun

CJ, Mykalin and Michael spent a large part of the morning putting on concerts. CJ got a mic stand for Christmas and he did such a good job of sharing with Michael who was truly obsessed with it!

Michael and Mykalin played with Michael's two new playdough sets this afternoon during quiet time.

I think Christmas wore Lauren and Madalyn out - they did a lot of this today.

Today's Quote

Daily Photo Journal Friday January 28, 2011

There was no school again today and we had three school children. Plus I had agreed to keep three kids this evening so their mom could have a mom's night out. So it was a very busy day with a total of eleven day care kids, plus two of Amanda's friends and my own three kids.

Here are some pictures of some of the fun they had today.

Our large legos were well used as usual.

Austin brought out hisK-nex set and the older kids had fun building.

Katie brought a word search book and several of the kids got on the hunt for words.

And the puppets and toy animals were brought out and put to good use.

Sharing a good story is always fun.

Some of the kids started feeling getting restless and decided to go outside and play awhile.

When Doug came home from work he got in on the kid fun as well.

Just for good measure here's a shot of Amanda folding laundry. And apparently Lauren is trying to climb into that box. I hope she got whatever she was going after.
