The Walnut Acre Daily - Creative Card Play and More

Words to Live By

Galatians 4:4-5

But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.

Homeschool Fun

This morning the younger kids watched The Call of Samuel and Shepherd Boy to go with our Jesse Tree readings. They also watched The Letter D Song and Learn to Count with Shawn the Train. We also played a game memory.

Their worksheets and coloring pages today came from
3 Dinosaurs (Printing and Counting pages and  -at word family )

Austin and Amanda continued their study of health and nutrition today. They also studied Indirect Objects and Objective Complements in Grammar and fractions in math.

Books We Enjoyed Today

In the Kitchen

Amanda was our bread baker today using our favorite Homemade White Bread recipe.

Outdoor Fun

The kids were enthralled with with this sunset this evening. It was really beautiful and this picture doesn't do it justice.

We Are Going

As usual on Wednesday evening we were at church. I snapped a few pictures of the kids during the time between dinner and classes. There's always time for them to play basketball, do crafts, and play games.

Just For Fun

Apparently it's as much fun to see how many memory cards can be held with the toes as it is to actually play the game. Who knew?

The Walnut Acre Daily - Bible School, Day Camp, and the Sneaky Bread Taster

Walking With the King
"Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name."

In the Garden
CJ has been busy today watering his corn and checking to see if any has come up yet.

Outdoor Fun
CJ spent a good part of the morning doing a project with wood . . .

and finally finished what he said was a loom to weave things out of yarn on.

We Are Learning
We used the same farm themed book and song as we did yesterday at circle time and then watched this video.

We also then did a farm themed beginning sound worksheet . . .
Since Michael is at camp today CJ was the only one doing schoolwork with me this afternoon. We played Sight Word memory, did a sight word worksheet and a math worksheet . . .

. . . and watched these two videos.

We Are Reading
Two of the books the kids and I enjoyed reading today are
Fox in Socks

and
The Little Engine That Could

In the Kitchen
I made bread today and one of the loaves turned out really big.

I guess someone thought there was too much bread here because later, after I thought it should be cool I came to check on it and found it looking like this.
When I first saw this I was wondering aloud what happened to the bread and if it had a large bubble in it while it was baking. As I was talking I realized a child was making a sudden exit from the room. So I called the child back and inspected the bread closer and realized someone had been eating it. The child admitted to eating it while I wasn't looking and for some reason the whole thing struck me so funny I could hardly wait for the child to leave the room so I could laugh. Amanda asked me how on earth that was funny and I had no answer for her other than keeping a sense of humor is the only way to stay sane.. I guess my bread must not be to bad if they can't wait to eat it.

Out and About
I took Michael to the church at 7:15 this morning to meet the other kids getting a ride to camp. There were six other five and six year olds headed up to camp for the day. Michael has been looking forward to this for so long and was so excited. He's going two days this week and then two days in July. He came home today happy and looking forward to going again on Thursday.

This evening we were back at Bible School again. It was once again a good evening and we had so much fun with our class. This is a really cool group of kids and teachers. Doug and I have both been so busy we've barely had time to talk about his class (5th and 6th grade) and how it's going other than him telling me it's going well and they had 15 kids and five teachers this evening. The class of 1st and 2nd graders I'm in had eight kids and six teachers.

Other Notes and News
On tomorrow's agenda is playtime and lunch in the park, baking six dozen cookies for Bible School, and then back to Bible School in the evening.

 Working, Learning and Playing Together

During circle time this morning Michael chose these number puzzles to work on together. This is one of his favorite activities.

Austin brought in a Katydid from outside for us to see.

Our preschool/kindergarten theme for the next few weeks will be Transportation. Austin helped Michael with this picture/word matching activity from the Transportation Preschool Pack  from Homeschool Creations.

Amanda folding laundry.

Austin shredding old paper. We use the shredded paper in the guinea pig and Amanda's pet rats cages instead of buying litter for them.

Luaren and Michael playing with transportation flannel set I made to go with our tranportation theme.

Creating

Today I made this block for the patchwork curtains I am working on for the playroom.

Here are some I did over the weekend.

From the Kitchen

Michael helped me mix up a double recipe of Homemade Egg Noodles.

Here are the noodles drying and also a two loaves of Traditional White Bread that had just come out of the oven.

Critters
Amanda's new cat, Sheena, is still getting used to her new surroundings.

Pepper thinks she has found a new friend but Sheena doesn't want to play.

Favorite Homeschool Activities from Austin and Amanda

Austin said his favorite part of our lessons today was this short video about the Giant Prehistoric Bear.

Amanda's favorite part was the three chapters I read aloud  to them from The Tanglewoods Secret by Patricia St. John.

Tonight I Am Grateful For . . .

This goofy guy who keeps showing up in my kitchen window.

Today's Adventures - Monday September 19, 2011

Verse of the Day

As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Now remain in My love. John 15:9

Quote of the Day
For when I know the love God has for me, then my mental confusion disperses lik fog on a summer's morning. ~ Malcolm Smith

Creating

I'm working on the curtains for the playroom now. Like the kitchen curtains these will be patchwork curtains but these will have fun things appliqued on them for the kids to enjoy. Here are two blocks I finished today.

From the Kitchen

Austin made us scrambled eggs with sausage and swiss cheese for lunch.

Amanda made Tuna Cheesy Pasta and corn for dinner.

I baked two loaves of bread. My favorite recipe lately is Traditional White Bread.

Critters

Pepper the dog and Little Red the not so little guinea pig have become friends. They are so funny - touching noses and jumping around excitedly when they see each other.

Working Together

Michael and I tackled a couple mountains of laundry today.

Playing Together

On My Mind

We were reminded yesterday in Pastor Jim's sermon not to try to put  God in a box that we've imagined He should fit in, based on our own comfort zones. God is God and will do what is best in His timing and His own way. And although it is usually not the way we would think it should be done it is always the best way.

Tonight I am Grateful For . . .

. . . the fact that Doug was able to fix my computer today. I'm almost ashamed to admit how much I missed my computer today after one of the kids spilled cereal on it and several of the keys quit working. Doug replaced my the keyboard on mine with a keyboard from an old computer and now it's as good as new.

Every day is an adventure and I never want to forget.
