Runaway Pig, Peanut Butter Cookies, and God's Wealth

WORDS TO LIVE BY

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
2 Corinthians 4:7

TODAY'S QUOTE

I could not say I believe. I know! I have had the experience of being gripped by something that is stronger than myself, something that people call God. ~ Carl Jung

ON MY MIND

The word treasure in 2 Corinthians 4:7, according to Strong's Bible Concordance carries the idea of wealth. The treasure or wealth spoken of here is from God. God fills us, the jars of clay, with wealth from Him. When we are filled with His treasure, His wealth, it should be obvious that it does not come from us. Basically, as Brian Wills pointed out during our recent revival meetings, God downloads Himself into our hard drive.

What is this wealth He gives us? Here are a few examples.

John 3:16 - God gave the gift of His Son, for our salvation.

Philippians 4:7 - He gives us the treasure of inner peace even when things around us are seemingly falling apart.

Romans 15:13 - We have joy.

Ephesians 1:18-20 - We have His power living in us.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 - We have His comfort when times are hard.

1 Corinthians 15:57 - He gives victory in every area of life.

Matthew 6:25-34 - He gives provision so we do not have to worry.

John 10:10 - He gives life - rich, full, abundant life, both now and in eternity!

And this, and so much more that He gives us, because of His love for us, is true wealth.

IN THE KITCHEN

Tomorrow after church there's a church picnic so today I made some food to take along.

I made these very simple Peanut Butter Cookies. They only take three ingredients - 1 cup peanut butter, 1 cup sugar and 1 large egg. Mix together ingredients, roll teaspoons full of dough into balls, press with fork and bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes.

I made a double batch so we could eat some here at home today.

ANIMAL UPDATES

Miss Piggy even has the kids feeding her apples now. She's so spoiled!

This same spoiled pig was accidentally let loose late this evening by two kids playing and led us on a long, not so merry chase through the neighborhood squealing and running, with five people running around after her looking like complete idiots. Thankfully Amanda is awesome with animals and was finally able, with us guarding the perimeter, to get her back in her pen.

AROUND THE HOUSE

In between everything else going on today I did get some things done around the house - three loads of laundry from start to finish, cleaned out the cabinet under the kitchen sink, and scrubbed out the kitchen trash can. And then there were all the usual things - wash dishes, sweep floors, take out trash, wash dishes again. Amanda picked up and vacuumed in the living room and playroom.

IN THE GARAGE

Austin and Doug have been working almost all day finishing up what they started yesterday - new ball joints and brake pads on the van.

OUT AND ABOUT

Calvary United Methodist Church, which is near us, had a pancake breakfast this morning so Doug and I took the younger kids. While we were in line we met up with some friends so we had breakfast together.

AND MORE

It rained off and on today but between rain showers the kids were outside a lot.

Rain means puddles and when there are puddles you have to build a bridge to go over them!
