IN THE KITCHEN

I made pork chops, spinach, fruit salad and Herbed Cottage Cheese Bread for dinner this evening.

ANIMAL UPDATES

I was walking through the yard barefoot this morning, picking grass and clover for the rabbits, and nearly grabbed a handful of this little critter.

So I scooped it up in a jar and brought it inside for the kids to see. After looking through lots of photos online we decided it looked like a rat snake. We were deciding on the feasibility of keeping it since Austin really wants a pet snake and while we were thinking it somehow got away. In the house. Thankfully Austin found it a couple hours later, just hanging out in his room. We decided to let it back out to do it's job keeping the rodent population oit of the animal feed.

AROUND THE HOUSE

The last two days we've been getting back into the groove after being on vacation. This evening I'm finally feeling like things are getting caught up again. Laundry, cleaning, and things that we took with us put away again.

OUT AND ABOUT

Yesterday Michael and I were at my sister's for a few hours. Today we just had to pick up prescriptions from the pharmacy.

AND MORE

Last week we enjoyed a week of vacation at a cabin about twenty minutes away. My sister and her kids went as well as my dad and my three younger siblings, one of our cousins and a friend of ours. We hiked trails, found lots of salamanders, checked out some old abandoned buildings, relaxed by the river, cooked out, played games, read, stayed up late and slept in.

Our time away was fun but coming back has been a little bumpy. When we got home my stepdaughter, Kristen, was waiting in the driveway for us. She had been run off the road and although she was OK and there was just a small scratch on her truck she was a little shook up. Then Monday evening Austin dropped a large piece of wood on his toe and bent the toenail back. The toe looked pretty mashed so Doug took him too Urgent Care to have it checked. Kristen was here atvthe time and she and Michael went along formoral support. At the Doctor's office they cleaned it up and and prescribed an antibiotic. Tosday it hurts some but not extreme and there no swelling seems to be fine. They had been home just long enough to eat dinner when my friend called and said she had run out of gas on interstate. So Doug went and got some gas and took it too her. I was glad all of these incidents turned out to be "little" emergencies with no severe consequences and today has actually been very calm.
