Compelled By Love

"For Christ's love compels us" 2 Corinthians 5:14 (HCSB)

The church my family and I attend has begun a study called Compelled by Love and today was the first day of the study. All the Sunday School classes are studying this and there are Bible studies throughout the week focusing on this study.

The main focus of this study is that we are compelled by love for those around us to share the the Gospel and God's love wherever we are.

Here are a few thoughts from Sunday School as well as the sermon, which had the same focus.

God began His relationship with man by giving. Genesis 1:26

We sometimes hesitate to share the gospel with those we know because we don't know how they will view us if we do. This is because we are still focusing on ourselves instead of the love God has for the other person. The love that should be flowing through us to them.

The Gospel is best shared through building relationships, showing God's love and sharing God's Word.

God is love.

This question in the handout we were given really stood out to me.

If love became the central compulsion in your life, how would the following areas of your life change?
Marriage?
Parenting?
Work relationships?
Life with your church family?
Your study group?

And to that I would add-
Neighbors?
Friends?

How would you answer these questions? I'm still working my answers.

This post is linked to Hear It On Sunday, Use It On Monday and Thought Provoking Thursdays.

  1. Such a powerful and convicting question -- life, the whole world even, would be dramatically different if love were the central question, the barometer by which people measured their every action.

So lovely to meet you here, Rose...and thank you for joining the Hear It, Use It community -- welcome!

  6. Compelled by love..what a wonderful focus for Lent.

Wow, if love became the central compulsion in my life things would be different, that's for sure. For one thing, I probably wouldn't talk so much. I'd probably give space that others could fill up, you know? That's one of the things I love most about God...He gives space for us to be - and to become. What great love the Father has bestowed on us...
