ANIMAL UPDATES

YARD AND GARDEN

Austin and I worked in the garden this morning, pulling weeds. I also pulled some turnips to use for dinner this evening and discovered they are bigger than I realized. So I'm going to have to get those out of the ground soon. There are two kinds of turnips here - Purple Top White Globe and White Lady.

We found this beetle today and Austin was holding it and letting the kids look at it. It was all fun until the beetle pinched him and then suddenly the beetle went flying. We tried to find it again in the grass but couldn't.

WORKING, LEARNING, AND PLAYING TOGETHER

We've had a lot of fun today. The cars and playmat were used quite a bit.

We played outside this morning before it got too hot. Some of the kids were using the grape arbor as monkey bars. I let them enjoy it for a little but then had to ask them to stop because it was too much for the bars and they were starting shift.

There was more music and singing.

After lunch we worked in workbooks, played a game and read some stories.

Today has been an unusually rough day for Michael. He slept in this morning and seemed fine until lunch time. Then he suddenly went into full meltdown mode over a small thing and spiraled in and out of meltdowns for several hours. This evening has been a little better but not great. I have no idea where this is coming from and hope it ends quickly! This used to be every day life for us but with medication and a lot of work we are usually in a much better place than we were today.

  1. Rose, I "stopped by" again today to see what's happening in your life. I saw in the photos you posted on July 6 that Erica is with Darlene. Is she with her long-term? It would so ease my mind if I knew she has help! :) What all do you make with turnips? Maybe some recipes on the blog?

  2. Hi Marie :)
Yes Erika is there long term and ha been SUCH a blessing! She is a real treasure.

We are going to have lots of turnips this year so I'm in the process of finding recipes. Tuesday I roasted some with onions and seasonings and we really liked them. Wednesday I sliced some and included them in scalloped potatoes and we liked that too.
