The Walnut Acre Daily - Jenny the Pit Bull, Dental Health Month Kids Activity, Meatball Stew and More

Words to Live By

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:5-7

Preschool and Kindergarten Homeschool Fun

Bible

This week we are talking about the fruit of the spirit so we watched this Fruit of the Spirit video and  played a Fruit of the Spirit Bingo Game.

Phonics and Reading

We did some more lessons from Starfall - the G lesson and the -ip word family as well as the Letter G worksheet.

We also reviewed the -am word family and read the book Pig Wig Can Hit.

Math

For Math today we watched Counting and Numbers Learning With Nature Video and practiced counting with gumball counting sheets

Dental Health Unit

As we continue this week with our Dental Health Unit  I thought it would be fun to actually practice tooth brushing. I printed some tooth templates and laminated them (I am loving the laminater I bought last weekend.) Then I made the teeth "dirty" by dipping my finger into freshly use coffee grounds and rubbing them on teeth. We then used some extra toothbrushes to brush the teeth. Simple and fun - my favorite kind of activity. We also watched Dudley's Dental Island , a very short video about brushing  and flossing  teeth.

 Storytime

Austin and Amanda's Homeschool Assignments

Bible - Proverbs 25, Math - Digits and Place Value Part 2, Literature - No Woman So Fair, Science - Nervous System A and P Part 2.

Other Books We Enjoyed Today

I read from these books with CJ and Michael before they went to bed tonight.

In the Kitchen

Breakfast - Cereal with Milk, Fresh Fruit, Juice

Lunch -  Today was  Amanda's day to make lunch. She served  Empanadas, Mazzarella Sticks, Peas, and Carrots and Dip.

Dinner - I put a meatball stew in the crockpot this morning since I was going to be gone this evening. It was simple to put together - one bag of prepared meatballs, frozen mixed vegetables, one chopped onion, one can stewed tomatoes and about half of a large jar of pasta sauce and a few sprinkles of salt. I know these aren't very precise measurements but this one of those recipes that can be adjusted to suit individual tastes. Other than bowl of stew I took out ahead of time to put in Doug's lunch for tomorrow, it was all eaten so I guess they liked it.

Around the House

I cleaned up the kitchen after lunch, cleaned and organized one of the craft shelves, and did some laundry.

Austin cleaned up the kitchen after lunch and dinner.

Amanda did some laundry, did the daily cleanup in the mudroom and downstairs bathroom, and cleaned out a couple drawers in the kitchen.

Outdoor Fun

It was fairly warm this morning but wind made it feel colder. Austin took the kids out to play but they only stayed out about 20 minutes. Doug and Austin took the kids back out to play this evening while Amanda and I were gone and I think they stayed out a lot longer that time. The wind had died down by then and it felt a lot warmer.

Furry, Feathered, and Four Footed Friends

When it's reasonably warm and not raining Austin usually takes our big dog, Ronnie, for a walk. Here they are this morning headed out for their walk. I took these pictures through the kitchen window.

Michael and Pepper enjoying a patch of sunlight in the playroom. Pepper looks like she's wondering why Michael is invading "her" patch of sunshine.

Volunteering at the SPCA

Today was Amanda's day to volunteer at the SPCA. Here she is playing with our favorite of the dogs that are there now, a Pit Bull named Jenny. She is such a sweet, affectionate, playful dog.

This is new dog named Aidan. I'm not sure what breed he is. He was very quiet and calm, content to just sit quietly and enjoy the company.

This is Josie. Of all the dogs at the SPCA now she's been there the longest. She is VERY active dog and needs some training, so Amanda was working with her to sit and wait before getting her toy to play with. She's trying to help her learn some doggy manners in the hopes of making her more adoptable.

  1. Your tooth brushing activity looks great!

It doesn't matter how hard I try, I just find it so hard to trust a pit bull. However, I am glad that one in particular has found a friend in Amanda.

  2. I still find myself being a little wary around her even though she's given no reason me to be so.
