Simple Daily Blessings at Home

WORDS TO LIVE BY

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.  Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Hebrews 4:14-16

TODAY'S QUOTE

When the mask of self-righteousness has been torn from us and we stand stripped of all our accustomed defenses, we are candidates for God's generous grace. ~ Erwin W. Lutzer

ON MY MIND

IN THE KITCHEN

Michael helped me fry the meat for the stew I made for dinner this evening. He did a good job and was very proud of himself. He even asked me to send this picture of him to my sister.

HOMESCHOOL

Michael wanted to do his work outside this morning but we both ended up getting cold so we came inside to finish. He was in a very silly mood and kept us both laughing.

AROUND THE HOUSE

I did four loads of laundry today plus folded a load of towels from yesterday. It was nice enough outside to hang a couple loads on the line and Michael came out and helped. I also did the sweeping and washed dishes.

Austin did the daily cleaning in the upstairs bathroom, took out the trash and swept the porches. Amanda did the daily cleaning in the downstairs bathroom and cleaned the fish bowls.  Michael vacuumed the playroom and living room.

IN THE GARAGE

Doug has been working on a leaf blower in the garage this evening. He and Austin also put a new taillight on the truck.

OUT AND ABOUT

Austin, Amanda and Michael spent the evening at my sister's. Other than that, we were home all day.

AND MORE

The weather was beautiful this afternoon so Michael and I went for a walk/bike ride. Here are a few pictured from along the way.

To Be A Shelter

WORDS TO LIVE BY

Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
Romans 15:7

TODAY'S QUOTE

I felt it shelter to speak to you. ~ Emily Dickinson

ON MY MIND

The Emily Dickinson quote above is such a beautiful expression of the way should be to each other. I know a couple people like this, people I know I can go to and know they will be there for me. They will speak truth and blessing, pray with me and walk with me. I hope in turn I can be this for others.

ANIMAL UPDATES

All the animals seem to be doing very well. Michael helped me with morning chores today. He fed the dog and helped me pick up apples for the pig and then gave them to her.

AROUND THE HOUSE

I got one loads of laundry done and a load of towels washed and dried but not folded, dishes washed and floors swept. Austin did the daily cleaning in the upstairs bathroom and took out the trash. Amanda did the daily cleaning in the downstairs bathroom.

OUT AND ABOUT

This afternoon Michael and I were at my sister's for a couple hours so she could get out awhile. This evening was church. At choir this evening we got our folders with the music for the Christmas program. We listened to some of the new songs and went over the practice schedule. It's hard to believe it's already almost time to start practicing for this again.

AND MORE

After two days of rainy weather the rain finally stopped today. There were still some clouds but Michael and I enjoyed going for a walk/bike ride.

Rest, New Recipes and More

WORDS TO LIVE BY

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:28-29

TODAY'S QUOTE

Take rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop. ~ Ovid

ON MY MIND

The past three Sundays our pastor, David Chappell,  has been speaking on rest. It was interesting timing because just before that I had been thinking about rest - resting in Jesus, physical rest, emotional rest, and how it all ties together. Here are some thoughts from Sunday's sermon.

"God never intended for us to rest from work. He called us to work from rest."

"What you do is not your identity. Jesus is your identity."

"The Jewish day begins at sundown."

IN THE KITCHEN

For dinner this evening I made 7-Can Soup and Seasoned Buttery Crackers. Both recipes came from The Pioneer Woman and were new for us. They were really good and I'm sure I'll make them again. I loved how easy the soup was to make.

HOMESCHOOL

We got a lot more done today than yesterday!

SOME OF THE RESOURCES WE USED TODAY

IN THE GARAGE

Doug and Austin worked a little more this evening on putting sides on the trailer.

OUT AND ABOUT

Our only outing today was Michael and me going to the grocery store for milk.

AND MORE

A friend came over this evening and we had a good talk while our children played together.
