Planting Seeds with the Kids

Today is hot and we've been inside more than usual. But before it got too hot the kids and I got some seeds planted.

We planted sunflowers, gourds, okra, marigolds and morning glories. After they are growing good we will transplant them into the garden or flower beds.

First we filled our planters with potting soil.

Then we planted the seeds.

And then of course the seeds had to have a drink.

I think watching all this fun wore Roni out!

Childhood 101

Hannah's Promise

Our Bible story this week is Hannah's Promise. We're reading about how badly Hannah wanted a little baby. After Samuel was born and was old enough Hannah took him to the temple to learn to serve God as she had promised she would. This story also tells how Samuel heard God's call and Eli the priest explained to Samuel how to respond.

Puppets are alwaays a favorite craft so we made some today of Samuel, Eli and Hannah. We also colored this coloring page and story summary of baby Samuel.

Bird Life Cycle Coloring Page and Activity

For the last day of our bird theme week we talked about the life cycles of birds. In the book A Nest Full of Birds, the life cycle of robins is explained. I thought it would be fun to see how other birds have the same life cycle.

Our first activity was a coloring sheet showing the Penguin Life Cycle. For the second activity I printed both the black and white and the color version of Life Cycle of a Bluebird. Then I cut out the color pictures and the kids matched and glued them to the pictures on the black and white sheet.

Pepperoni Pasta Salad

One of our favorite dishes when the weather turns warm is Pasta Salad. I like to make it first thing in the morning so that it is well chilled and the flavors have had time to really blend.

This is the recipe I use although it can easily be adjusted to suit your own tastes.

1 lb spaghetti noodles, cooked and drained
8 oz pepperoni, diced
2 peppers, diced ( I like to use green and orange to add color to the salad)
2 cucumbers, peeled, seeded and sliced
small container cherry or grape tomatoes, halved
1 cup grated cheese
1 (36 ounce) bottle Italian dressing

Mix together all the ingredients and let chill for several hours before serving.
